Yep, this is what immediately popped into my head when I was thinking of how to title today's blog post.
If you don't get it, you haven't taken enough trips around the sun.
If you do, here's a visual to go along with the earworm that I just planted in your head...
The boys and I were up early this morning so that we could be on the road by 7:00 AM. We took the traditional pic of the giants, um, kids with PoPo and GongGong before we left.
Looks like I'm catching up in the gray hair contest |
The house in the background is the childhood home of the 27th POTUS and 10th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the only person to hold both positions. Tours of the home are given every half hour. The ranger took us into three rooms:
The study |
The parlor |
Then we were free to look at the exhibits throughout the rest of the house at our own pace. I learned that Taft, in addition to serving as the president (1909-1913) and Supreme Court justice (1921-1930), was also governor of the Philippines (1901-1904) and Secretary of War under Theodore Roosevelt (1904-1908). And his wife Nellie, during her tenure as first lady, was the one responsible for the planting of the now-renowned Japanese cherry trees around the Tidal Basin in Washington, DC.
After we finished up here, we decided against driving around downtown Cincinnati and opted to enjoy the air conditioning in our hotel room instead. I should have lobbied a little harder to go see the fountain shown in the "WKRP in Cincinnati" opening credits, but I guess that will have to wait until I visit here again with R.
For dinner I wanted to try Cincinnati chili, so our options were Skyline Chili or Blue Ash Chili. But since the latter has been featured on "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" (and J liked their menu options better), it was a no-brainer. And they even had a location close to our hotel!

It was okay, but I like Steak 'n Shake chili mac better |
No better way to end a hot summer day (or any day, for that matter) than ice cream!
Graeter's ice cream parlor right across the parking lot from our hotel - score! |
