Field of Lights

7:37PM

After returning to the hotel this afternoon, we had enough time to take a much-needed nap after our kayak tour and then get cleaned-up for our evening activity, Sensorio (aka "that Field of Light thingy") in Paso Robles.

So, what exactly is Sensorio? A walk-through art installation just east of Paso Robles on the north side of CA-46, Sensorio is an array of solar-powered fiber-optic lights "planted" on the hillsides throughout the venue. At night the spheres are illuminated with changing colors.

We arrived about twenty minutes before our ticketed entry time of 7:30PM. After going thru the security screening and having our temperatures checked, we waited for the gates to open. Once inside, we walked along the one-way trail and found a bench to park ourselves while waiting for sunset and the lights to come on. It was quite windy, and while we all had jackets, I found myself regretting not wearing a long-sleeve shirt, too. Brrrr!

As in SLO, I appreciated that there were lots of staff on site, who issued constant reminders to all guests to wear masks, maintain distance from others, and avoid flash photography (although there seemed to be more problems following that last one). Really, people?!

We walked the loop trail a couple times to take in the different views. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves...

The light pollution here is much less than what we have at home, so it was cool to see so many stars in the night sky. Many years ago, we purchased the Star Walk app - it was fun to put it to use and figure out which stars and constellations were which!

All in all, a great little getaway!
