Even though we were just here in June to visit family, we're back again in Chicago for a cousin's wedding this weekend. We got in yesterday around 7:00PM and grabbed dinner from the drive-thru at Steak 'n Shake. I was super bummed that the dining room was closed because you can't really eat Chili Mac while driving...
This morning we picked up R's dad for breakfast at Walker Bros. Original Pancake House in Wilmette. It's been ages since we've been here!
...while R ordered the apple cinnamon pancake, weighing in at a whopping 1900 calories!

Afterwards, we dropped off Dad back at his apartment and then headed down to Pullman National Monument. The last time we visited Pullman was in 2016, 17 months after its addition to the National Park Service, but there wasn't much to see then besides the row houses in the Historic Pullman neighborhood and the exteriors of the Hotel Florence and Factory Administration Building.
Our visit today was just a few days too late for the grand opening of the new visitor center in the renovated Administration Clock Tower Building. Given the history of this unit, it was especially fitting that the ceremonies took place over Labor Day weekend. Since they were limiting the number of visitors inside the building, we didn't spend too much time poring over the exhibits. But I did think that everything was really well done.
Once we finished inside, we walked around the grounds. Beautiful day to be outside!

It will be fun to see how things change as the NPS keeps working on interpreting the story of Pullman.
