Ink-iversary

If the traditional gift for 25 years of marriage is silver and 50 years is gold, then we marked the occasion of our 28th wedding anniversary with ink. National park passport stamps from Satwiwa Native American Indian Culture Center, to be precise!

However, our first stop was actually for brunch at La Playa Soul Kitchen. Since seeing the write-up online about this place a couple months ago, we have been wanting to make the trek over to Port Hueneme to check them out. Today was the perfect opportunity - we will drive anywhere for good food!

Sol biscuit and hush puppies, biscuit french toast, and strawberry shortcake biscuit

We had to wait a bit for our food to come out (I think that they might have been understaffed), but the biscuits lived up to their billing - very light and fluffy! I would definitely come back again to try the chicken biscuit and the biscuits 'n gravy.

From here, we took the scenic route to the Rancho Sierra Vista section of the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Portrero Road passes by Cal State Channel Islands and winds its way through the canyon up to Dos Vientos Ranch. It's just a short hike in to the Satwiwa Culture Center, which is only staffed on weekends.

After getting my stamps, we took the Ranch Overlook Trail back to the parking lot, which gave us some nice views of Boney Mountain. Fitting to spend National Trails Day on part of the Juan Bautista de Anza National Historic Trail!

Cheers to 28 years!
