Sing the Song

When R and I watched the Cubs beat the Padres in San Diego last April, we finally broke our streak of attending losing games. Then the boys joined us for a night game at Wrigley in September which had a more typical ending (Pirates 5 - Cubs 0), bringing our collective record to (drumroll, please...) 1-8. 😩

For today's Cubs-Diamondbacks game, we got tickets with four of our longtime friends. Like we did for the game in September, R and I parked in the remote lot off Irving Park Rd. and rode the shuttle over to meet up with them.

It had rained earlier, but thankfully it was done by the time we got to the ballpark. But it was definitely on the chilly side. Chicago weather in April is like a box of chocolates - you never know what you're going to get! Haha!

At least I had Auntie A's Cubs blanket!

The giveaway was a Speedy Pete Crow-Armstrong Bobblehead!

Starting lineups

New Bears head coach Ben Johnson threw out the first pitch

The Cubs' starting pitcher Ben Brown (same one we saw pitch in San Diego) gave up a home run to the first batter he faced. In the bottom of the 1st, Ian Happ walked and then scored on Kyle Tucker's triple.

Bottom of the 1st - Seiya Suzuki at bat, Kyle Tucker on 3rd

Seiya struck out, but Michael Busch brought Tucker home with a base hit. Score: Cubs 2-1 at the end of the 1st.

The D-Backs didn't score in their half of the 2nd inning, but the Cubs put four more runs on the board, including back-to-back homers from Suzuki and Busch. Cubs 6-1.

Neither team scored again for rest of the game until Arizona got a solo home run in the ninth. But it wasn't enough. Final score: Chicago Cubs 6 - Arizona Diamondbacks 2!

Time to sing the song...

Woohoo! Now we're 2-8 in person! 🙌

After the game, we headed up to Skokie for dinner with J and L at Dengeo's, but P and J had plans with family. Hilariously enough, we found out that their family plans included picking up dinner from Dengeo's when we saw him in the restaurant. Great minds think alike!
