Sadness and Joy

Devoted son.

Loving brother (and brother-in-law).

Awesome uncle.

Fun cousin.

Respected colleague.

Trusted friend.

Faithful servant.

K, we miss you so much! But we take joy knowing that you are home with our Lord and will see you again.

Today our family and friends gathered one more time to remember and honor R's brother K. Of course, this was the most fitting way to start things off this morning...

Then we headed to Elmhurst for the inurnment of K's ashes. Many years ago, my father-in-law purchased 6 plots out here. R's family ties have always been in the city itself, not the suburbs, so we never really understood why the family plots were all the way out in Elmhurst until now. Sadly, we didn't know that even as late as the 1960's, there were no cemeteries on the north side of Chicago that would sell plots to anyone of Japanese descent. Some enterprising salesman must have gotten his hands on a directory and contacted the members at my in-laws' Japanese-American church. And so, rather than face the dilemma of having nowhere to bury their family, many of them bought out here. I think he even got a "buy five, get one free" deal!

Afterwards, we enjoyed a delicious meal at Angelo's. Many thanks to my college roommate for helping us find such a nice place to host a luncheon!

And the very best way to end our day...

Treating ourselves to Oberweis!
