We're Baa-aack

After leaving Point Reyes NS yesterday, we headed down towards Santa Clara. According to Waze, there were a couple of options for ways (haha, see what I did there?!) we could go, but instead of taking the quicker route around the Oakland-side of the bay, M chimed in that he wanted to see the Golden Gate Bridge.

Then he promptly fell asleep.

And couldn't be roused when we actually crossed the bridge. *sigh*

So, we crawled our way through San Francisco in late-Saturday-afternoon traffic on Highway 1 for naught. Ugh! Torture for the driver, not so bad for the nappers.

Once we finally made it to our hotel, we checked in and made arrangements to meet our friends for dinner. We saw them briefly over Presidents' Day weekend when we were up here for M's All-State performance, so it was great to have another chance to spend more time with them! We ended up at SmokeEaters, just off the 101 in Santa Clara. Tasty wings and NBA playoffs!

Afterwards we headed back to their house for some board games, just like when we visited in 2015. J even brought our own favorite game, Sequence, to play with them. Fun times!

This morning we met our other friends (whom we also saw for a quick lunch in February) at their church for Easter Sunday. Our musician was very excited to hear the trumpets performing before and during the service. It was a nice treat to participate in "high church" worship, especially for Easter!

Given our recent trip to Portland and how much we raved about Voodoo Doughnut, our friend D encouraged us to check out Psycho Donuts, which just so happened to be near our hotel.

Hmmm, so far our OCD travel checklists include:
I abstained, but love the name, though!
  • national park units
  • state capitals
  • smushed pennies
  • amusement parks
  • presidential libraries
  • "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives" restaurants
  • counties

We could expand to include baseball stadiums (there's even a passport!), but I'm not sure if my waistline is amenable to adding donuts...

After going back to the hotel room to pack up and check out, we headed over to D's house for the Easter potluck they were hosting. I'm so glad we were able to have a longer visit today!

We hit the road mid-afternoon because the boys decided they would rather go all the way home instead of stopping somewhere in between. M even offered to drive, so he took the wheel from Kettleman City on. Good job navigating the I-5 (why do California drivers not get out of the passing lane for faster moving cars?!) and handling the Tejon Pass in holiday weekend traffic, son!
