Leaving Las Vegas

From previous treks to Vegas, we have learned the hard way that driving back to Southern California on a Sunday is almost guaranteed to be total misery. On any other day without traffic, we can easily make it in about 4.5 hours. The absolute worst was when we literally crawled the entire way from Jean, NV to Victorville, CA on I-15, taking more than 8 hours to get home. Ugh! So, needless to say, it was a no-brainer to stay through until Monday.

Buddies!
The nice part about having the extra day was that we didn't have to rush off after Sunday brunch. More time for hanging out with the family! J ended up going with some of the cousins to help babysit the little ones by the pool at the Golden Nugget.

The bad part about having the extra day was that R and I had more time to contribute money to the casino's coffers. Boo!

We also thought about checking out the Neon Museum. It has a collection of rescued iconic Vegas signs on display in their neon "boneyard", some of which are lit up during the nighttime tours. But since it was still uncomfortably hot outside even at 10:00PM, we decided to skip it. Next time!

On the way home today, we planned to stop at Steak 'n Shake in Victorville for lunch, only to discover that it was no longer in business. So we called an audible and headed over to Emma Jean's Holland Burger Cafe on Historic Route 66 instead. Since it's only open for breakfast and lunch Monday-Saturday, we've never passed through Victorville at the right time to eat here. Unfortunately, we were too late for the biscuits and gravy - so sad, 'cuz it's my favorite breakfast!

If you don't watch Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives on the Food Network, then maybe you'll recognize the cafe from this clip instead. The Bride was here!
