Here's to the Ones Who Dream

Pacific Crest 2018 DCI Tour

Does this sound like a summer of fun to you?
  • Rehearsing countless hours a day in the sun, heat, humidity, insects, rain...
  • Catching a few hours of sleep on the floors of school gyms or while riding on the bus
  • Traveling with a small army of performers, instructors, staff, and volunteers in a fleet of buses, equipment trucks, RVs, and a mobile kitchen
  • Performing in venues across the country over the course of 6+ weeks

Ask M - he definitely thinks so!

He loved his four years of marching band in high school, so it has been his dream to perform in a drum and bugle corps. At the beginning of this year, he auditioned for Pacific Crest, a DCI World Class corps based in Diamond Bar, CA, and received a contract. What followed were weekend rehearsals once a month and then all-day rehearsals starting in June. He missed most of the last two weeks of school, but at least he was excused from camp to come back for his high school graduation ceremony.

Their show was entitled, "Here's to the Ones Who Dream" with music from La La Land, Smash, and The Artist. Evoking images of Hollywood, it paid homage to Pacific Crest's 25th anniversary and all those who follow their dreams. This is where their tour has taken them so far this summer...

...which brings us to DCI Championships in Indianapolis, IN. The prelims were held yesterday at Lucas Oil Stadium. This mama was very happy to see her son for the first time in many weeks, even if only 90% of him was left! Can you imagine how many calories these kids burn doing this "activity"?!

My parents came to Indianapolis with us to watch M, but with 40 corps performing all throughout the day yesterday, we only stayed to watch a handful of them.

PC trumpets after prelims

The top 25 corps advanced to today's semi-finals, but only the top 12 will move on to tomorrow's finals. Pacific Crest finished #20 in the semis, so this was their final performance of the tour. So proud of them all!

Hooray for Hollywood!

Safe to say, M is going to miss these guys a lot!

And for your viewing pleasure, the last performance of "Here's to the Ones Who Dream".  Watch our favorite trumpet react to the announcer's blunder at 0:19!
