Out of Luck

Saturday, July 8

We grabbed breakfast this morning from Aloha Specialties, where SPAM and Portuguese sausage rule! On our way to UNLV for the second day of games, we stopped by Leilani's Attic to see if they carried the yummy cornflake cookies that we had on Kauaʻi in 2021. No dice.

After going thru security, we headed straight over to Cox Pavilion for the Miami-Boston game. M and J were sporting their UCLA gear since their fellow Bruin, Jaime Jaquez, Jr., was drafted by the Heat a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately, after we sat down, we quickly figured out that Jaime wasn't going to play at all because he wasn't even dressed during warmups. Bummer.

Disappointed Bruins

We spent the rest of the day going back and forth between Cox and Thomas & Mack to watch games. To be honest, nothing really stood out so I won't write much here, except to mention that we were back in Cox to see the Bulls take on the Grizzlies in the afternoon.

One of these things is not like the others

Nice to see DeMar DeRozan here supporting his teammates!

By the time we were ready to leave, we realized that R's set of keys was missing. He had dropped them into our clear bag when going thru security, but they must have fallen out during one of the wardrobe changes. So we retraced our steps, which was a little difficult considering how many different places we sat to watch games today. 😱

Whenever we travel, I make sure we bring both sets of keys because I'm paranoid one will get lost or stolen. Looks like I have good reason to be paranoid from now on, huh?! Fortunately I had my keys with me, so we drove back to hotel to make sure that his keys weren't actually in the room. Then we left the boys there (they got themselves Lappert's ice cream since they close early), and R and I went back down to UNLV for one more look around. No luck.

We left our contact info with security, just in case someone finds them. But I'm guessing that we will end up buying a replacement fob. Some Apple AirTags probably couldn't hurt either...

It was late by the time we got back to the hotel, and, needless to say, we were hangry. So we walked a couple of blocks over to Pizza Rock for dinner - there was no wait to be seated, and the Detroit-style pizza hit the spot!

Sunday, July 9

Having previously suffered in Sunday traffic on the 15 back to LA, we usually try to leave Vegas on a Monday instead. But because both M and J have to work tomorrow, we planned to hit the road this morning before it got too bad. Before we checked out, though, R's friend S texted to ask if his son A could catch a ride back with us because he needed to be at work tonight. They were having car trouble, and it couldn't be fixed until tomorrow. Good thing we brought the minivan instead of the car, so we had room for an extra passenger.

Considering the way things were going this weekend, I'm happy to report that we all made it home without any other issues!
