Rain, Railroads, & Relatives

After having breakfast at the hotel (any place that has a "make your own waffle" station gets a big thumbs up from the boys), we spent most of the morning driving north on I-15 in the rain. My husband's sense of humor was evident from the playlist he queued up on the iPhone:
  • Have You Ever Seen the Rain - Creedence Clearwater Revival
  • Can You Stand the Rain - New Edition
  • Who'll Stop the Rain - Creedence Clearwater Revival
  • Over Me - Whiteheart
  • Let It Rain - Newsboys

But by the time we reached Promontory, UT to visit Golden Spike NHS, thankfully the rain had cleared up.

Just before we left home, I (finally) finished reading Stephen Ambrose's book on the Transcontinental Railroad, "Nothing Like It In the World". It was so interesting to learn more about what all took place as the railroad was being built from both ends of the country. I was pretty thrilled to be standing in the very spot where such a tremendous undertaking was completed.

Even though trains no longer run thru Promontory, the fills, grades, and cuts are still visible even more than 140 years later.

My husband's cousin lives very close to where we are staying, so we were able to have dinner and nice visit with her this evening.

Well, actually I had breakfast for dinner. Here's the first entry in my "best biscuits and gravy" contest...

Angie's Restaurant - Logan, UT
The biscuits were fluffy; the gravy was creamy and not at all heavy, with lots of sausage bits.  Very good!

She even humored my oddball roadside attraction pursuit and showed us the world's largest fly fishing lure right here in Logan, UT. (Side note:  We saw some folks fishing just outside of town using *bows and arrows*! Seems like that's a sure-fire way to injure yourself.)

All in all, another very good day, even in spite of the rain. Grand Tetons, here we come!
