"Spring" Break

Even though spring officially began a few days ago, the weather here in Illinois is still firmly stuck in winter! After a week of checking the forecast and repeatedly warning son #1 that it was going to be cold, we finally convinced him to pack something warmer than just t-shirts and shorts. I'm sure he'll thank us later...

High school buddies (& their goofy children in the back)
In order to take advantage of frequent flyer miles, we booked a flight that arrived at O'Hare about midnight last night. Unfortunately, that put us on the 405 to LAX on a Friday afternoon... two hours of I-want-to-rip-my-hair-out joy. While waiting until it was time to board, R looked around the gate area and thought he recognized a guy there - turns out it was one of his friends from high school who was also flying back to Chicago with his kids. (This just reinforces why my husband is always scanning faces in crowds because somehow he usually will end up bumping into someone he knows!)

Once we landed and got our bags, we walked over to the Hilton O'Hare to spend the night, so that our family would not have to come fetch us that late. Thanks to my brother-in-law for redeeming his HHonors points for us! Lucky for M (wearing shorts, of course) we only had to take an underground tunnel to get there, so he was spared from a very cold walk!

Grandpa came to pick us up this morning and brought us over to pick up our rental car. The local Hertz (a much better deal than renting from the airport, by the way) did not have any full-size cars left, so we were upgraded to a premium for no extra charge. Woohoo!

Since it was time for lunch, we went to eat...

I wish!

Nope, not here either!

Steakburgers, of course! The boys' favorite place!

Congrats to the bride and groom!
After lunch, we had just enough time to get ready to go to the wedding of R's cousin's son. The ceremony was held at the Schram Memorial Chapel, formerly part of the Glenview Naval Air Station which was closed in 1995. So glad that we could be here to celebrate their special day with them!

Then on to the reception at Chevy Chase Country Club in Wheeling!

Our family cleans up pretty nicely!

Even though we're probably considered part of the "old folks" crowd now (the groom was only 7 years old at our wedding), we still had a lot of fun! Best part was being out on the floor with my teenager, as well as watching him dance to "Gangnam Style"!

Not too old to have fun!
