You Can Always Go Home Again

Got a phone call this morning from my brother-in-law. He "missed his flight" (wink, wink) leaving Vegas (just kidding, K!) so we won't see him at all on this trip. The nephews were utterly disappointed. Good thing we'll see him next month at the family reunion in (wait for it...) Las Vegas, where he'll have to make it up to them!

Later on, we went to worship service at our old church. So nice to see many of my husband's relatives from the other side of the family there, plus some other people we knew who just happened to be visiting at the same time. But I wish that we would have had more time here in Chicagoland to connect with some of our old friends from CCP, as well as from college. :(

Afterwards, we went to lunch with Grandma and Grandpa at Steak 'n Shake. Sorry, In 'N Out, but a steakburger w/cheese beats a double-double, hands down! I decided to go with the chili mac this time, though -- just as worthy a choice! The fries here are "the best ever!" according to my sons. And the milkshakes... soooo good!

We said goodbye to my in-laws after lunch and then went back to my still-not-home-yet brother-in-law's to load up. Because it was a holiday weekend, we didn't hit any traffic or road construction delays at all on the Tri-State or I-55 down to Morton - amazing!

Mom was already cooking for us by the time we got here. All of our favorites - green onion cakes, Chinese BBQ pork, hot braised bean curd (ma po tofu), sweet & sour pork... I was so hungry, I forgot to take pictures of the dishes before we started digging in!

After dinner the boys headed downstairs -- they love to play ping pong on the table down in the basement. Oh, what I wouldn't give for a basement in CA!

Tomorrow if the weather's good, Splashdown water park in East Peoria!
