Cleveland Rocks!

We checked out from Hotel Breakers first thing in the morning and grabbed some breakfast to eat on the road. About 90 minutes later, we were in Mentor, Ohio (~30 miles northeast of Cleveland) to visit James A. Garfield NHS.

The boys picked up their Junior Ranger booklets and we joined a group to tour the house.

President Garfield's wife, Lucretia, added several rooms onto the house after his death, but the ranger was careful to point out which parts of the home existed when Garfield himself would have lived there.

From what the ranger told us, it seemed like Lucretia Garfield was quite a talented woman. She painted the tiles surrounding the fireplace, as well as some of the plates above. She oversaw the renovations to the home and successfully managed their farm after her husband died.

While we were inside touring the home, it had started to pour. I would have liked to see more of the grounds and take a few more pictures of the front of the house, but without umbrellas, we had to make a run for the visitor center once we were finished.

After lunch, we drove back into Cleveland to visit the Rock 'n Roll Hall of Fame. The old folks enjoyed the exhibits more than the kids, I'm afraid. I was amazed at the small size of many of the clothing/costumes on display. I guess hard-living must keep rockers skinny.

No photography allowed inside, so this is the only shot I have to post

From here, it was on to our hotel (which my brother-in-law booked with his frequent stay points - thanks, K!) And just around the corner from the hotel was a Diners, Drive-ins & Dives restaurant - Melt Bar and Grilled. Even though this wasn't the same location that Guy Fieri visited, the menu was the same.

Menus are pasted on the back of record jackets

Oooohhh! Shaun Cassidy!

My grilled cheese sandwich - peanut butter, banana, & cream cheese.  SO YUMMY!

While we were eating, we found that we had great seats to watch the show outside... two police officers putting some dude through field sobriety tests in the parking lot. He failed miserably. The restaurant burst into jeers and cheers when the officers cuffed him. Glad they got him off the road!

Just as we finished dinner, it started to pour again. Good thing we didn't try to go see the Angels play the Indians at Progressive Field tonight! No rain in the forecast for tomorrow, though. Yay!
